The State Laboratory of Agriculture is a legal entity of public law within the sphere of governance of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.

The laboratory is guided in its activities by the Constitution of Georgia, international treaties and agreements, Georgian legislation, by-laws and these regulations.

The field of activity of the laboratory includes a single cycle of diagnostics. It includes both laboratory research on animals and plants, as well as food safety expertise.

The field of activity of the laboratory includes in particular:

• Laboratory diagnosis of animal diseases (including poultry, fish, bees);
• Laboratory diagnosis of communicable animal pathogens;
• Assessing the risk of dangerous diseases for animals within the scope of competence;
• Examination of food and raw materials of animal and plant origin, animal feed and raw materials, non-alcoholic beverages and drinking water, determination of quality and feed ability;
• Diagnosis of plant quarantine and other dangerous pests;
• Participation in disease control and quarantine measures within the scope of competence;
• Facilitate the approbation and introduction of new diagnostic methods, laboratory equipment and diagnostic tools.
